Sunday Stills – Nature’s Frames

Today’s challenge “is to get something framed by nature. Trees making a frame over a stream, a branch making a fork around the moon…nature does a lot of this if we’ll just open our eyes and look”.

I have slim offerings this week as I’ve been sick with a stomach virus since last Saturday, and just began to feel human again on Friday. Didn’t leave much time to take pictures. I took the following shot this morning while walking Harley in 25 degree temps. I think it’s one of the coldest mornings this winter.

This shot is of the barn across the road from the house. I have photographed it hundreds of times, but saw it from a different angle today.

The next shots I am sharing from my archieves.

I believe the tall wooden wall around a fort is called a ballistade. Ed will correct me if I’m wrong! Our home is in the mountains in the distance.

This shot is of one of the many restored cabins at The Museum of Appalachia. It was taken from the doorway of one of the cabins.

And finally this is a shot of Baby Falls on the Tellico River taken during a draught. Some of you may remember Ed’s pictures of kayakers going over these falls.

Macro Monday

While at the Knoxville Public Market this past week I saw these beautiful fossils in one of the booths and just had to take a few macros of them.

I’m not sure what the name of these fossils are, but the following picture is of a huge trilobite. It is at least a foot tall! I would love to get this for my granddaughter who loves fossils, but it is a bit on the pricey side.

Sunday Stills – Corners

“This weeks challenge it to photograph corners…..corners on buildings, boards, streets…..just find yourself a corner and play with light and shadows.”

This past week wasn’t the best for getting out and taking photographs, as it was cold and rainy most of the week, and of course that was when I was out with my camera. Here are the shots I selected to share today for the “corners” challenge;

I took both of the above pictures in pouring down rain!!

The following pictures were all taken at the Cherokee Removal Memorial Park. We happened upon this lovely spot while we out visiting the Sandhill Cranes.

And when I looked at this rock all I saw were corners.

Now I’m off to check out everyone else’s “corners”.

Fun with fungi and competition with Ed. Ed posted fungi today, so I wanted to do a few of mine as well. Chuck’s wood piles offer up a multitude of fungi and lichens.

Do you see the snail?

We are enjoying Ed’s home visit this month, and tomorrow when it is supposed to be warmer (60 degrees) and sunny we are going to the Hiawasee Wildlife Preserve to see the Sandhill Cranes. Thousands of them migrate here every winter. I’m sure Ed and I will be posting lots of pictures.

Wow!! Now this is a challenge. It is so hard to pick just one favorite picture, as I have many. I have selected two from my most recent entries, and I really can’t remember back through the whole year!! HAPPY NEW YEAR wishes to you all for a healthy and prosperous 2012.

This sunset was spectacular, it’s beauty was really hard to capture with the camera.

I love this picture of Harley, I may frame it one day.

No real camera goals this next year, just get out and use it more.

Sunday Stills – ‘Tis the Season

The challenge is…………..What Christmas means to me??? Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. I have always enjoyed seeing nativities, especially in the old days when churches presented live nativities. I was even a guardian angel in our church nativity when I was a teen-ager. Christmas means going to church on Christms Eve and singing carols, and holding my little lighted candle. I tried to find some nativities to photograph in yards and churches, but didn’t find any, so this is my attempt and bringing a Nativity to you all.
